“Amici di Penna” - pen pal - is a cultural project by BimBi Italiani that connects classes of Italian children around the world through the exchange of letters, postcards, stories, and creative materials.

This educational initiative encourages writing, strengthens Italian language use, and opens the door to intercultural dialogue.

Taking part in Amici di Penna means opening your classroom to the world. Through the magic of letter writing, students experience the value of cultural exchange, strenghten their Italian language skills, learn to express themselves, and build authentic, lasting connections.

Writing a letter becomes more than just an exercise - it's a meaningful act of communication, empathy, and personal growth.

For schools, it’s a unique opportunity to enrich the curriculum with a real-life experience of global citizenship—helping children develop a deeper sense of identity and belonging that goes beyond borders.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Participating schools are matched with a partner school - either in Italy or abroad - with a class of a similar age.
Teachers guide their students in writing and exchanging letters, postcards, and creative materials throughout the school year.
BimBi Italiani supports the process by facilitating class matching, providing operational guidelines, and collecting final documentation.
The goal is to foster regular, meaningful correspondences that develop students' linguistic, social, and intercultural skills.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to primary and lower secondary school classes - typically 4th–5th grade and middle school
Open to Italian schools in Italy and Italian or bilingual schools abroad.

IMPORTANT: Participation is reserved for schools with an activite BimBi Italiani membership and is grounded in principles of educational collaboration, intercultural respect, and global citizenship.
